Gerhard Voigt

Biography

Publicity, book design, exhibition display, packaging, postage stamps. Born 7 March 1926 in Halle. Severely wounded during military service. 1946-9: studied advertising art and set design at the Burg Giebichenstein art school in Halle. 1949-52: head of studio, DEWAG publicity, Halle. From 1952: freelance. 1956-68: member and correspondent, Verbandes Bildender Künstler Deutschlands (VBKD: Association of German Artists), graphic designers section; 1968: vice-president. From 1978: taught advertising art at Halle’s Hochschule für industrielle Formgestaltung. Numerous prizes including City of Halle 1962 and 1969, GDR 1971; Poster Biennale, Warsaw, 1974.
