Biography

German-Colombian painter. Born Hans Gerhard Franz Trier 1 August 1915 in Düsseldorf- Kaiserswerth. 1934-8: studied at the Düsseldorf Akademie für Bildende Künste (Kunstakademie); travelled in Europe, especially Italy and France. October 1939-41: military service with Luftwaffe. 1941-4: technical draughtsman in Berlin. 1944-5: military service in Denmark and East Front. 1945-6: stage decorator in Nordhausen, Thuringia. 1946-52: painted in Burg Bornheim , near Bonn. 1952-5: travels in USA and Latin America. Worked in Bogotá, Colombia, as advertising designer. 1955-6: taught at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (now the Hochschule der Künste), Hamburg. 1957-80: taught at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Berlin. 1972-8: executes ceiling paintings and murals. Died 14 June 1999. Numerous awards: Bleving Davis Prize, Munich, 1950; Art Prize, City of Darmstadt, 1960; Grand Prize for Art, State of North Rhine Westphalia, 1962; Art Prize, City of West Berlin, 1966; Art Prize, City of Cologne, 1967.
