Herbert Stefan Ott

Biography

Born 16 March 1915 in Kulmbach, Bavaria. 1929-33: trained as a lithographic priter. 1933-5: studied at the Nuremberg Kunstgewerbeschule. 1935-40: studied at the Nuremberg Akademie where an influential teacher was Max Körner. 1942-5: taught commercial art and drawing at the Nuremberg Gewerbeoberschule; designed publicity for the Navy. 1945: moved to Einberg, near Coburg. 1945-8: commercial artist. 1946-52: Drawing teacher at the Oberrealschule, Neustadt, near Coburg. From 1952: taught at the Gewerbe- und Handelsschule, Coburg. 1955: moved to Öslau, near Coburg. c1970s: designer, and frequent contributor to the journal Exlibriskunst und Gebrauchsgraphik in which many of his exlibris designs appeared.
