Posters, paintings. Born 15 January 1893 in Bremen. Student of H. Groeber, Carl von Marr and Franz von Stuck at the Munich Akademie. 1925: settled in Oberstdorf (Allgäu). ‘During the Weimar Republic [he became a] member of the NSDAP. July 1937: his painting Im Anfang war das Wort (‘In the Beginning was the Word’: Hitler addressing an audience) first shown at the Munich Grosse Deutsche Kunstausstellung. June 1943: awarded Goethe Medal.
