Paul Dietrich

Biography

Posters, stamps, book jackets. Born 1 April 1907 in Neustadt/Schwarzwald. Studied in Karlsruhe, Munich and Stuttgart: teachers included Ernst Schneidler, F.H. Ehmcke, Wilhelm Schnarrenberger. From 1932: freelance, especially designing books and travel posters. 1939-43: taught at Staatliche Hochschule für Kunsterziehung, Berlin. Military service; prisoner of war. 1945: settled in Bodman am Bodensee (Lake Constance) where he freelanced, founded a private art school (Bodensee Kunstschule) and worked mainly for industrial firms such as the Federal Railways and the Post Office. 1953: his poster received a prize as the best poster of the year.
