Biography
Publicity, posters, book covers. Born Tobias Max Barthel 3 November 1914 in Munich. 1929-32: studied at the Meisterschule für Deutschlands Buchdrucker: a teacher was Eduard Ege. 1932-6: worked as technician, then studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule, Stuttgart where a teacher was F.H. Ernst Schneidler. By 1967 Barthel was teaching lettering and graphics at the Staatliche Photoschule, Munich.
